Range Safety & Etiquette

A range is a safe environment to practice with your firearm! In this #GUNSMARTS video, Ken Scott will explain what to do when you take your first trip to a range.

Make sure to always follow the four rules of firearms safety at all times:
1. Always point your firearm is a safe direction.
2. Always treat your firearm as if it is loaded, even if it is unloaded.
3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire.
4. Know your target and what’s behind it.

  1. Never been to an outdoor range. I donโ€™t like the idea of having to call out everyone to stop what they are doing so I can change my target. I also donโ€™t like walking down range to change my target. Seems like a pain, seems dangerous and not worth it. Are there any outdoor ranges where this target switch is mechanical?

  2. If someone goes down on the range, does everyone have to turn their guns so they’re not pointing at that person? And also so theyre not pointing at anyone not down range? Everyone has to hold it pointing straight down?
